Ohio Property and Casualty Insurance Agent Examination (Series 11-36)
The Ohio Property and Casualty Insurance Agent Examination (Series 11-36) is the combined insurance agent licensing exam for Ohio's Property and Casualty lines of authority. The Ohio Department of Insurance (ODI), authorized by Chapter 3905 of the Ohio Revised Code, has contracted with PSI Services LLC to conduct the examination program: a 150-question, 2.5-hour computer-based exam (plus one to ten unscored experimental items) requiring a 70% minimum passing score, delivered at PSI test centers for a USD 49 examination fee.

One combined 150-question multiple-choice exam for the Property and Casualty lines across 10 content areas with published weights: Insurance Regulation 10%, General Insurance 9%, Property and Casualty Insurance Basics 16%, Dwelling ('14) Policy 6%, Homeowners ('22) Policy 14%, Auto Insurance 14%, Commercial Package Policy (CPP) 12%, Businessowners ('13) Policy 8%, Workers' Compensation Insurance 4%, Other Coverages and Options 7% (including commercial inland marine, equipment breakdown, farm coverage, and cargo insurance)
Where rules vary
Ohio insurance agent licensing examination; passing the combined Series 11-36 exam covers the Property and Casualty lines of authority. Resident applicants must pass at least one line's exam after completing required pre-licensing education; the exam is also available nationwide at PSI locations for Ohio candidates. Separate single-line Property (11-46) and Casualty (11-47) exams exist, but Series 11-36 is Ohio's combined Property and Casualty exam.
Eligibility
No state approval needed to register, but the combined P&C exam requires both pre-licensing certificates: 20 hours of approved pre-licensing education for Property and 20 hours for Casualty, whose paper Course Completion Certificates (or ODI education waivers) must be presented on test day — certificates are valid 180 calendar days and the exam must be passed within that window. Pre-licensing education may be waived for designated designations (CPCU, AAI, ARM, CIC) or an insurance degree. Criminal background check (BCI & FBI, WebCheck; $72.25 if fingerprinted at a PSI center) is required for the license
Retake policy
No limit on the number of retakes; a new appointment cannot be made on the same day as the failed attempt (a candidate who fails Wednesday may call Thursday and retest as soon as Friday, space permitting); a new fee is paid each attempt; for exams with pre-licensing requirements, the exam must be passed within the 180-day validity of the course certificate or the pre-licensing course must be retaken
