The New York Property/Casualty Insurance Agent/Broker Examination is the combined state licensing exam a candidate must pass (70% of questions correct — 105 of 150) for a New York property & casualty agent (PC) or broker (BR) license: a 150-question multiple-choice exam administered electronically by PSI Services under contract with the New York State Department of Financial Services (PSI series 17-56), offered at PSI testing centers in New York and via live online proctoring; a passing exam must be on file within 2 years of applying for the license. The separate 100-question Personal Lines Insurance Agent/Broker exam (series 17-54) covers personal-lines-only licensure, and designation holders (e.g., CPCU) sit the distinct Property and Casualty Insurance Laws and Regulations exam (series 17-74) — neither is part of this exam.

New York State insurance producer licensing examination required under New York Insurance Law (§ 2103(b) for property & casualty agents, § 2104 for brokers; § 214 requires the Superintendent's annual study of these examinations); it is the exam for New York resident and non-resident property & casualty agent/broker licensure.
Completion of a Department-approved prelicensing education course totaling not less than 90 hours of instruction for the property casualty line of authority (or not less than 40 hours for the personal lines authority), or an exemption via a professional designation (e.g., Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter, which instead requires only the Property Casualty Laws and Regulations exam) or permitted work experience; exam passed within 2 years of applying for the license
Retake permitted after a mandatory waiting period; the program-specific waiting period and rescheduling rules are published in the Candidate Information Bulletin (PSI requires 2 business days' notice to reschedule without penalty)
