Exam structure

One multiple-choice examination in four parts: Part I Property & Casualty Fundamentals (30 questions), Part II Personal Lines (34), Part III Commercial Lines (66), Part IV Alabama Law (20). The same content outline also governs the single-line Property exam (100 questions), Casualty exam (125 questions), and Personal Lines exam (100 questions)

Where rules vary

Alabama's own producer licensing examination, required for resident producers seeking the Property and/or Casualty lines of authority in Alabama; nonresidents licensed and in good standing in another state are exempt from taking it.

Eligibility

Required before licensure for the Property and Casualty lines of authority; no prelicensing course requirement is imposed on the exam itself (applicants holding a current producer license in another state, in good standing, are exempt as nonresidents)

Retake policy

Waiting-period limits: after failing two examinations for a line of authority, a 90-day wait is required; after two further failures, a 180-day wait applies to each subsequent attempt; waiting periods expire 24 months after the last failure. Property and Casualty waiting periods cross-apply to the combined Property & Casualty exam (and vice versa, along with Personal Lines)
