Exam structure
One 150-minute exam in two parts. Part 1, life and health general knowledge (100 scoreable items): Types of Policies–life (15), Policy Riders, Provisions, Options, and Exclusions (15), Completing the Application, Underwriting, and Delivering the Policies (12), Retirement and Other Insurance Concepts (8), Types of Policies–health (16), Policy Provisions, Clauses, and Riders (15), Social Insurance (6), Other Insurance Concepts (5), and Field Underwriting Procedures (8). Part 2, Texas state-specific (30 scoreable items): Texas Statutes and Rules Common to Life and Health Insurance (14), Pertinent to Life Insurance Only (6), Pertinent to Accident and Health Insurance Only (7), and Pertinent to Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) (3). 15 additional pretest questions are unscored.

Eligibility
At least 18 years of age prior to sitting for the examination; a valid Social Security number
Retake policy
Candidates who fail pay the examination fee again to retake the exam; no waiting period is published
