Exam structure

One 140-item combined-line multiple-choice exam in two sections: Life, Accident and Health General Knowledge (100 scored plus 5 pretest items across life policies/riders/provisions, accident and health products, and social insurance) and South Carolina Specific law and regulation (30 scored plus 5 pretest items); each exam 'is divided into two parts: the general section and the state section'

Where rules vary

This is South Carolina's own state producer licensing examination for the combined Life, Accident and Health or Sickness lines of authority; passing it is a prerequisite to applying for a South Carolina resident producer license, and the SC-specific outline section is built on Title 38 of the South Carolina Code of Laws

Eligibility

No state approval or prelicensing education is required before registering for the examination; after passing, candidates must wait 2 days and then apply for the license online at NIPR

Retake policy

Candidates must wait 24 hours before making a reexamination reservation (reservations cannot be made at the test center); each exam may only be taken six times in a one-year period; candidates who pass one section and fail the other must retake the entire exam; the USD 59 fee applies to each attempt
