Ohio Real Estate Salesperson Examination
The Ohio Real Estate Salesperson Examination is the two-portion licensing examination required for an Ohio real estate salesperson license: a National portion of 80 items on real estate principles and practices (120 minutes) and a State portion of 40 items on Ohio license law and agency (60 minutes), both passed with a score of 70%. The exam is administered under the Ohio Division of Real Estate & Professional Licensing (Department of Commerce), which has contracted with PSI Services LLC to conduct the examination testing at computer-based test centers in Ohio or via remote online proctoring. Both portions must be taken in the same session (unless one was previously passed) and passed within a 12-month eligibility period.

Two portions in one computer-based session: (1) National portion — 80 items across 11 content areas (Property Ownership 10%, Land Use Controls 5%, Valuation 8%, Financing 10%, Contracts 19%, Agency 13%, Property Disclosures 7%, Property Management 3%, Transfer of Title 6%, Practice of Real Estate 12%, Real Estate Calculations 7%); (2) State portion — 40 items across four Ohio topics (State Governance of the Real Estate Profession 4 items, Licensing Requirements 6 items, License Law and Rules of the Ohio Real Estate Commission 16 items, Brokerage Relationships/Agency Law 14 items); questions appear one at a time
Where rules vary
Ohio's own real estate salesperson licensing examination, required under Ohio Revised Code Chapter 4735 for licensure by the Division of Real Estate & Professional Licensing; the National portion is the same national principles content used for Ohio salesperson and broker candidates, and the State portion is Ohio-specific.
Eligibility
Division-approved Salesperson Examination Application (USD 81 fee) with proof of completing 100 hours of pre-license education — Real Estate Principles and Practices 40 hours, Ohio Real Estate Law 40 hours, Real Estate Appraisal 10 hours, Real Estate Finance 10 hours — plus state and FBI criminal records checks; applicant must be at least 18, a U.S. citizen or legal alien, honest and truthful, and free of disqualifying offenses; broker sponsorship is required for licensure
Retake policy
Failing candidates receive the failing score report at the examination site and must submit a retake application service request and the appropriate fee to the Division online (paper applications not accepted) before re-registering with PSI; the failed portion must be retaken within the 12-month eligibility period, after which the process starts over
