Nevada Nursing Assistant Competency Examination
The Nevada Nursing Assistant Competency Examination is the two-part state exam required to be listed on the Nevada Nursing Assistant Registry and certified as a CNA in Nevada — a 75-question, 60-minute multiple-choice knowledge test (80% to pass, available remotely proctored or as a read-aloud audio version) plus an in-person skill test of 3–4 demonstrated nurse aide tasks (30 minutes, scored by an RN Test Observer) — owned by the Nevada State Board of Nursing and administered under its approval by D&S Diversified Technologies (D&SDT)–HEADMASTER through the Nevada TMU portal.

Exam structure
Knowledge test: 75 multiple-choice questions across 12 NSBN-approved subject areas (Basic Nursing Skills 9, Infection Control and Standard Precautions 9, Safety 9, Role and Responsibility 8, Personal Care 7, Care Impaired 6, Client Rights 6, Communication and Interpersonal Skills 5, Data Collection 5, Disease Process 4, Mental Health 4, Development across the Ages and Restorative Care 3). Skill test: 3–4 tasks — the first a mandatory task with embedded handwashing (e.g., bedpan, catheter care on a manikin, isolation gown/gloves with urinary drainage bag), the rest randomly selected to be comparable in difficulty
Where rules vary
Nevada-specific competency exam: passing both parts is required to be listed on the Nevada Nursing Assistant Registry and to receive the Nevada Nursing Assistant Certificate, and the knowledge test follows the NSBN-approved Nevada test plan; results are submitted electronically to NSBN.
Eligibility
Completion of an NSBN-approved nursing assistant training program (75 hours of instruction including no less than 60 hours of theory and laboratory skills; the instructor enters the training record in TMU) — or NSBN approval to test via waiver application (E2 nursing student, E3 out-of-state training, E4 reactivation by examination, E5 closed training program); government ID required at check-in; ADA accommodations approved in advance by D&SDT-HEADMASTER
Retake policy
3 attempts to pass both the knowledge and skill portions within 1 year of training program completion; after 3 failed attempts the candidate must complete a new NSBN-approved training program (a passed portion carries over after retraining); the failed portion must be repaid before scheduling a new date; cheating/dismissal can bar retesting for at least 6 months and require NSBN permission
