The Indiana Certified Nurse Aide certification evaluation is a two-part competency exam (a 100-question multiple-choice written test, available in English, Spanish, or an approved oral format, plus a separately administered untimed skills evaluation) that the Indiana Department of Health (IDOH) requires for listing on the Indiana Aides Registry. IDOH owns the program and the test content standards; Ivy Tech Community College administers the exams as the state's contracted testing entity.

Two parts: a 100-question multiple-choice written test (90 minutes; available in English, a Spanish version, and an approved oral read-aloud format) and a separate untimed hands-on skills evaluation; both must be passed for registry placement
This is the Indiana state nurse aide competency evaluation; passing it and being listed on the Indiana Aides Registry is required to work as a CNA in Indiana long-term-care settings, and the test is built from IDOH-approved state standards
Completion of an IDOH-approved CNA training program (the 105-hour Certified Nurse Aide program) or an eligible alternate pathway (currently enrolled nursing student who passed Fundamentals of Nursing with a C or better, graduate nurse, EMR/psychiatric attendant/military health-care experience with skills testing effective 9/1/2026); out-of-state CNAs in good standing no longer test as of 9/1/2025
Four (4) attempts within the two-year period; a new payment is required for each retest ($90 single section, $100 both); a candidate who does not pass within four attempts must personally appear before the Certified Health Care Professions Commission before reapplying; cancel at least 48 hours ahead or forfeit the fee
