Florida Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Exam
Florida's two-part nurse aide competency examination — a 60-question written test plus a hands-on Clinical Skills test — required for certification as a Florida Certified Nursing Assistant and listing on the Florida CNA Registry. The Florida Department of Health/Board of Nursing owns the exam and contracts Prometric to develop and administer it.

Exam structure
Two-part examination: (1) Written test of 60 multiple-choice questions scored across five content areas — Role of the Nurse Aide (20%), Promotion of Safety (22%), Promotion of Function and Health of Residents (20%), Basic Nursing Care Provided by the Nurse Aide (24%), Providing Specialized Care for Residents with Changes in Health (14%); (2) Clinical Skills test — timed hands-on performance of 3 computer-assigned skills plus scored Handwashing and Indirect Care, evaluated against checkpoints by two nurses. Candidates who completed an approved training program within 6 months of applying take and pass only the written portion.
Eligibility
No training required for challenge-route applicants (E-3); otherwise routes based on training or experience; all applicants must pass an FBI fingerprint background screening and be deemed eligible to test by the FL DOH
Retake policy
After three failed attempts on either part, the candidate must complete a state-approved training program of at least 120 hours before retesting (then retakes both written and clinical tests)
