Multiple-choice, computer-adaptive College Readiness Classification (CRC) test of 20 items across four strands (Quantitative Reasoning, Algebraic Reasoning, Geometric and Spatial Reasoning, Probabilistic and Statistical Reasoning), always given first; students scoring below the benchmark are automatically routed to a 48-item Diagnostic test (12 items per strand) for placement/developmental education assignment; calculators are not allowed except for pop-up on-screen tools (basic calculator, square-root calculator, and TI-84 graphing calculator) embedded in applicable items
A Texas statewide requirement: Texas Success Initiative Assessment 2.0 is the single approved placement instrument used by all Texas public institutions of higher education; the mathematics CRC benchmark and diagnostic process are uniform statewide, with testing availability, registration, and cost set by each institution.
Before taking TSIA2, students must complete the institution's mandatory Pre-Assessment Activity (PAA); students may instead qualify for an exemption (e.g., STAAR/TAKS, ACT, SAT, or successful prior college coursework benchmarks) or be subject to an Accelerated Learning Program waiver
Retakes permitted at any time (subject to institutional scheduling and any institutional fee/waiver policies)
