Construction Health and Safety Officer (CHSO) Examination
The South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professions (SACPCMP) requires applicants for registration as Construction Health and Safety Officer (CHSO) — a statutory registration category under section 18(1)(c) of the Project and Construction Management Professions Act, Act 48 of 2000 — to pass the Council's online, virtually proctored examination as their competency assessment. Eligibility requires a SACPCMP-accredited or equivalent NQF Level 5, 120-credit qualification plus four years of relevant practical experience, assessed by two Council assessors before the exam. Exam structure

Where rules vary
The examination is part of a national statutory registration scheme: "In South Africa, it is required that all Construction Health and Safety (CHS) Practitioners register in terms of Section 18(1)(c) of the Project and Construction Management professions Act, Act 48 of 2000."
Eligibility
Eligibility for CHSO registration: a SACPCMP-accredited qualification (or equivalent Built Environment/Occupational qualification on the Recognition List, Annexure A) at NQF Level 5 with 120 credits, plus a minimum of four (4) years relevant practical experience; the application must be assessed by two approved assessors who both recommend proceeding to the competency assessment (examination) before the applicant may book
Retake policy
Scores of 35–59%: one re-write after paying the re-examination fee, to be concluded within six months. Scores of 0–34%: application archived; must re-apply from the start. Applicants must book within three months of reaching exam stage (penalty fee if late) or within 12 months of exam-stage approval before the application is cancelled; bookings cannot be transferred between sittings and cancellation less than five working days ahead forfeits the exam fee.
