One online test taken after completing the six-hour course of study (reading the NJ Notary Public Manual and watching the Notary Public Manual Training Video series); content is based on the statutes, rules, regulations, procedures and ethical requirements in the State Treasurer's manual and covers the requirements, functions, duties and responsibilities of a notary public
Statewide New Jersey notary examination required of non-attorney applicants for an initial notary public commission (and of lapsed-commission applicants); attorneys licensed in New Jersey are exempt.
Six-hour course of study approved by the State Treasurer (satisfied by reviewing the NJ Notary Public Manual and watching the entire training video series), completed Notary Commissioning Application with legislative endorsement, and attorney exemption for licensed NJ attorneys; renewing notaries with an active commission are exempt from the exam
A limited number of attempts per application (portal references 'all of your attempts'); once attempts are exhausted a new commissioning application is required; a commission lapsed more than 30 days reclassifies the applicant as a new applicant who must retake the exam
