Hawaii Notary Public Examination
The Hawaii Notary Public Examination is a written, closed-book examination prescribed by the Hawaii Attorney General under HAR Chapter 5-11 that every approved notary commission applicant must pass (minimum passing score 80%), covering Hawaii notary statutes (HRS 456, 502, 603-1, 621-12, 621-13) and HAR Chapter 5-11 plus practical aspects of a notary's practice; given in person on Oahu at least monthly and on neighbor islands quarterly, USD 10 per attempt.

Eligibility
Approved application: US citizen (or national/permanent resident alien diligently seeking citizenship), Hawaii resident, at least 18 years old; a justification letter, a character letter, and a nonrefundable USD 20 application fee; exam is taken on the scheduled date after approval
Retake policy
An applicant who fails may reexamine without a new application if the reexamination is requested, paid, and rescheduled within fourteen calendar days of the failure notice; otherwise a new application and fees are required; after failing twice, the applicant must wait ninety days from the last examination to reapply
