Nebraska Notary Exam
The Nebraska Notary Exam is the 20-question, open-resources online test that every first-time Nebraska notary public applicant must pass before being commissioned. Administered by the Nebraska Secretary of State through the ClassMarker platform, it covers the Nebraska Notary Public Act (Neb. Rev. Stat. §§ 64-101 through 64-118), the Uniform Recognition of Acknowledgements Act, and the Secretary of State's rules; a score of 85% is required to pass, with three attempts allowed and the passing score valid for 90 days under the current Steps guidance.

Exam structure
20 questions aimed at determining the knowledge, experience, and competency to perform notarial work: knowledge of the Notary Public Act (Neb. Rev. Stat. §§ 64-101 through 64-118), the Uniform Recognition of Acknowledgements Act (Neb. Rev. Stat. §§ 64-209 through 64-215) and other relevant statutes, and the Secretary of State's rules and regulations
Where rules vary
A Nebraska state notary commission; applicants must be Nebraska residents or residents of a bordering state who maintain a regular place of work or business in Nebraska, and the exam and commission requirements are uniform statewide
Eligibility
At least 19 years old; U.S. citizen or qualified alien; Nebraska resident, or resident of a bordering state who maintains a regular place of work or business in Nebraska; no felony conviction (unless fully pardoned) and no conviction for a crime involving fraud or dishonesty within the previous five years. A $15,000 surety bond is also required for commissioning.
Retake policy
Three attempts to pass before commissioning; after a failed exam the applicant may reapply only after a 30-day wait (new application and fee required), and failing three times permanently bars eligibility for a Nebraska notary commission
