Michigan Journeyman Electrician Examination
The Michigan Journeyman Electrician Examination is the state licensing examination for the electrical journeyman license issued by the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) Bureau of Construction Codes: an 80-question, 150-minute, open-book computer-based exam with a 75% minimum passing score, administered by PSI Services LLC at its Michigan examination centers for a USD 100 examination fee.

Exam structure
One 80-question open-book examination covering the Skilled Trades Regulation Act (2016 PA 407), rules promulgated under it, the current electrical code rules Part 8, the Stille-DeRossett-Hale Single State Construction Code Act (1972 PA 230), and codes adopted under it, plus electrical installation topics: grounding and bonding, overcurrent protection, wiring methods and installations, boxes and cabinets, services, feeders, motors and motor controls, special occupancies, load calculations, lighting, appliances, box and raceway fill, power limited circuits, general electrical trade knowledge, and electrical theory; allowed references are the National Electrical Code (factory markings/highlights and factory tabs only), 2016 PA 407, 1972 PA 230, and Michigan Electrical Code Rules Part 8
Where rules vary
Michigan state journeyman electrician licensing exam issued under the Skilled Trades Regulation Act (2016 PA 407); Michigan does not hold reciprocity with any other state or country, and the City of Detroit issues its own electrical licenses and registrations locally.
Eligibility
Candidates must first submit the state examination application (with required fees and experience documentation per the Skilled Trades Regulation Act) to LARA and be approved by the Department before scheduling; approved candidates receive a notification letter with instructions to pay and schedule with PSI
Retake policy
Journeyman candidates are limited to 2 attempts within 1 year; once the attempt limit is exceeded, candidates must reapply with the state to become eligible again (a new examination fee applies per attempt)
