Exam structure
One computer-based multiple-choice test designed to assess nine abilities determined important to Police Officer tasks: Deductive Reasoning, Inductive Reasoning, Information Ordering, Memorization, Problem Sensitivity, Spatial Orientation, Visualization, Written Comprehension, and Written Expression; certain questions are answered from documents or information supplied on the test date

Eligibility
At least 17 years old on the test date and must not have reached the 35th birthday by the first application date (up to a seven-year deduction for military service); high school diploma plus either 24 college semester credits (2.0 minimum GPA) or two years of honorable full-time U.S. military service; U.S. citizenship, valid unrestricted NYS driver license, English proficiency, NYC-area residency, and good character at appointment; medical, psychological, physical, drug, and firearms screening required
