60 four-option multiple-choice, open-book items across six content areas: General Requirements; Fixtures; Water Heaters; Water Supply and Distribution; Sanitary Drainage; and Vents. Approved reference: the applicable edition of the International Residential Code (IRC)
Eligibility
No prerequisites are required to take an ICC certification exam, though ICC cautions that passing without code knowledge is unlikely; candidates must bring/purchase the applicable IRC edition as the open-book reference

Six exam attempts within a six-month period; exam fee paid at every attempt; after six attempts, must wait six months from the first attempt to register again
