Exam structure

One open-book, 60-question multiple-choice exam across four content areas: General Administration 39% (customer service, project applications, basic building concepts, permit issuance and fees, inspections and certificate of occupancy), Legal Aspects 22% (public information and legal, records management, record research, appeals and revocation), Plans and Documents 25% (reviewing related documents, occupancy group and type of construction, reading maps, calculations and scales), and Zoning and Site Development 14% (land use, right-of-way/utilities/easements, site plan review); all questions are four-option multiple choice with one option scored correct
