Class E Knowledge Exam
The Class E Knowledge Exam is the written knowledge test required to obtain a Florida learner's license or Class E driver license. It consists of 50 multiple-choice questions on Florida traffic laws, safe driving practices, and identifying traffic controls, delivered in English only through FLHSMV's Automated Driver License Testing System. It is given in person at FLHSMV driver license service centers, online through FLHSMV-approved Third-Party Administrators (applicants under 18 only, parent proctoring certification required), and in authorized high school driver education classes through the Driver Education Licensing Assistance Program (DELAP).

Exam structure
One 50-item multiple-choice section covering three content areas: (1) Florida traffic laws, (2) safe driving practices, and (3) identifying traffic controls; delivered in English only on the Department's Automated Driver License Testing System; a companion Driving Skills Test (separate assessment) is required for the Class E license
Where rules vary
Florida's own driver licensing knowledge test, required under Florida's licensing scheme for a learner's license or Class E driver license; the exam and handbook are Florida-specific.
Eligibility
Traffic Law and Substance Abuse Education (TLSAE) course required for first-time licensees; under-18 online test takers need a Parent Proctoring Form notarized or signed before a driver license examiner, and a parent/guardian must certify they monitored the online examination before a learner's license is issued
Retake policy
Failed knowledge exams may be retaken for a USD 10.00 retest fee (USD 20.00 for the driving skills test); customers who pass through a Third-Party Administrator may be randomly selected for a no-fee mandatory re-test at a driver license or tax collector office (per section 322.56(3)(b) and (e), F.S.), and a failed mandatory re-test requires a re-exam fee at the next attempt
