FAST Grade 8 Mathematics
FAST Grade 8 Mathematics is Florida's statewide, computer-adaptive mathematics assessment for grade 8 students, aligned to the B.E.S.T. Standards and administered three times per school year (PM1, PM2, PM3) as part of the Florida Assessment of Student Thinking progress monitoring system run by the Florida Department of Education. Grade 8 students use a scientific calculator provided in the online testing platform.

ScoringNo pass/fail rule for grade 8 Mathematics: students receive an overall scale score on the B.E.S.T. scale and one of five achievement levels; Achievement Level 3 indicates On Grade Level performance. Grade 8 Mathematics level ranges: Level 1 183-226, Level 2 227-243, Level 3 244-253, Level 4 254-262, Level 5 263-291. (PM1/PM2 results are informational only and PM3 is used for school accountability; the grade-3 promotion rule and the grade-10 graduation pass rule both apply to ELA Reading, not to grade 8 Mathematics.)

Exam structure
One computer-adaptive session of 36-40 items across four reporting categories: Number Sense and Operations and Probability (22-28% of test), Algebraic Reasoning (22-28%), Linear Relationships, Data Analysis, and Functions (25-31%), and Geometric Reasoning (22-28%). A calculator is available for items at benchmark (CL-flagged); grade 8 students access a scientific calculator in the student testing platform and must be provided blank scratch paper. Items are traditional multiple choice plus technology-enhanced types: Editing Task Choice, Selectable Hot Text, Multiselect, Graphic Response Item Display (GRID), Equation Editor, Matching Item, Fraction Model Item, and Graphing Item.
