One open-book computer-based exam of 135 multiple-choice questions in a single 4-hour sitting; question domains: Types of insurance (29), Billing regulations (17), HIPAA and compliance (7), Reimbursement and collections (19), Claims and billing (19), Coding (10), Case analysis (34, with source documents such as CMS-1500 forms, LCDs/NCDs, appeal letters, and A/R reports provided for review)

Eligibility

No formal eligibility gate, but AAPC recommends (and lists as experience requirements) high-level knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and pathophysiology plus proper application of payer policies, compliance rules, healthcare regulations, and CPT/HCPCS Level II/ICD-10-CM codes; the CPB training course is recommended beforehand

Retake policy
