Geodetic Engineering Licensure Examination

The GELE is the Philippines' national licensure examination for the geodetic engineering profession, created under the Philippine Geodetic Engineering Act of 1998 (R.A. No. 8560, as amended by R.A. No. 9200) and administered by the Professional Regulation Commission through the Professional Regulatory Board of Geodetic Engineering; since the September 2025 edition it is run as a Computer-Based Licensure Examination of five equally weighted subjects (Laws, Rules and Regulations; Mathematics; Theory and Practice of Surveying; Geodesy; Cartography) held over two consecutive days under the Enhanced Tables of Specifications of Board Resolution No. 1, s. 2025.

Exam structure

Five subjects, each weighted 20%: Laws, Rules and Regulations (public land laws and natural resources, laws on property, land reform laws, land registration, laws on obligations and contracts, professional and ethical practice); Mathematics (algebra, solid and analytical geometry, engineering economics, plane and spherical trigonometry, differential and integral calculus, mechanics, least squares); Theory and Practice of Surveying (property, isolated, mineral and mining, cadastral, astronomy, route surveys and earthworks, hydrographic and topographic, photogrammetry, engineering and construction surveying); Geodesy (geodetic surveying, geodetic astronomy, triangulation, leveling, gravity measurement, least squares); Cartography (plotting and mapping of isolated, mineral, cadastral, hydrographic, photogrammetric surveys, and map projection)

Where rules vary

One uniform national licensure examination required to practice geodetic engineering in the Philippines under R.A. No. 8560, administered on the same dates at PRC testing centers nationwide (13 centers listed for September 2026); the same examination is also administered abroad to overseas Filipino workers through Special Professional Licensure Examinations (SPLE), e.g., Abu Dhabi and Singapore in June 2025.

Eligibility

Applicant must be a citizen of the Philippines and a graduate of a Bachelor of Science in Geodetic Engineering from a school, academy, institute, or college duly recognized by the government (plus PSA birth certificate, PSA marriage contract for married female applicants, and a TOR marked 'For Board Examination Purposes')

Retake policy

Repeaters may reapply and pay the PHP 900 examination fee again (PHP 450 conditioned/removal); an applicant who fails the examination for the third time may take another examination only after the lapse of one year from the last examination
