Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Environmental Exam

The FE Environmental exam is the discipline-specific computer-based Fundamentals of Engineering examination for environmental engineering: 110 questions in a 6-hour appointment (5 hours 20 minutes of exam time), closed book with an electronic reference, administered year-round at NCEES-approved Pearson test centers for a USD 225 fee; results are pass/fail and typically available within 7-10 business days.

Eligibility

Designed for recent graduates and students close to finishing an undergraduate engineering degree from an EAC/ABET-accredited program; it is the first step toward licensure as a professional engineer, and many state licensing boards require board approval before NCEES registration

Retake policy

One attempt per testing window; no more than three attempts in a 12-month period
