CLEP Introductory Psychology Exam
The CLEP Introductory Psychology Exam is the College Board's computer-based, ~95-question (including unscored pretest items), 90-minute credit-by-examination test covering material taught in a one-semester undergraduate introductory psychology course; it is scored 20–80, the American Council on Education recommends a credit-granting score of 50 (3 semester hours), and it is taken year-round at third-party CLEP test centers authorized by College Board or at home with remote proctoring.

One section of approximately 95 multiple-choice questions drawn from 13 topic areas with published weightings: History, Approaches, and Methods (11–12%); Biological Bases of Behavior (8–9%); Sensation and Perception (7–8%); States of Consciousness (5–6%); Learning (8–9%); Cognition (8–9%); Motivation and Emotion (5–6%); Developmental Psychology Across the Lifespan (8–9%); Personality (7–8%); Psychological Disorders and Health (8–9%); Treatment of Psychological Disorders (6–7%); Social Psychology (9–10%); Statistics, Tests, and Measurement (3–4%); terminology follows DSM-5
Where rules vary
One uniform exam serving U.S. higher-education credit: ACE credit-granting recommendations and institutional credit policies are U.S. college policies, remote proctoring is available only to test takers located in the U.S. (or DANTES-funded), and exam registration is on the U.S.-based College Board site; some CLEP test centers operate worldwide.
Eligibility
None for testing at a CLEP test center — anyone, including high school students, may take a CLEP exam; remote proctoring requires being 13 or older (18+ for Illinois residents), located in the U.S. excluding territories, or DANTES-funded
Retake policy
An exam of the same title may not be repeated within three months of the initial testing date (test center or remote); a retake inside the window is invalidated, the score canceled and fees forfeited; remote appointments allow one free reschedule, then a USD 10 rescheduling fee
