175 four-option single-best-answer multiple-choice items (150 scored) across four domains: Clinical Overview, Education, Patient Support (20%); Sleep Study Preparation and Performance (27.3%); Scoring, Reporting, and Data Verification (25.3%); Treatment and Intervention (27.3%)
Where rules vary
A worldwide professional credential with no national regulatory anchor: the RPSGT is "held by more than 16,700 professionals worldwide", Pearson VUE provides BRPT testing "in both the US and internationally", and eligibility Pathway 5 exists specifically for candidates outside the United States and Canada.
Eligibility
One of five eligibility pathways, each requiring a minimum of 960 hours of clinical experience with on-site polysomnography duties (completed within 3 years prior to the exam) or graduation from a CAAHEP/CoARC-accredited polysomnography program, plus current BLS/CPR certification with a live skills component (online-only certifications not accepted)
Retake policy
No waiting period and no attempt limit; candidates may not reapply before completing a scheduled exam; retakers submit a new application and fee
