The Registration Examination for Electroencephalographic Technologists is ABRET's credentialing exam for health care professionals trained in and currently practicing electroencephalography: a computer-based, multiple-choice exam with a total testing time of four hours delivered in two 120-minute sections at Prometric test centers or by live remote proctoring. Passing awards the R. EEG T. credential for five years.

Where rules vary
ABRET is a U.S.-based nonprofit credentialing board (Executive Office in Denton, TX; governing law Texas) whose uniform English/Spanish exam is delivered worldwide at Prometric test centers and via Prometric remote proctoring; eligibility pathways reference U.S. CAAHEP-accredited programs (including Canadian schools) and ASET CEUs.
Eligibility
Eligibility via one of four pathways: (I) graduate of a CAAHEP-accredited NDT program with documentation of 50 EEGs and current CPR/BLS; (II) ABRET-recognized non-CAAHEP program certificate with 100 EEGs and CPR/BLS; (III) associate degree or current RPSGT with 150 EEGs, 1 year clinical EEG experience, 60 EEG-related ASET CEUs and a Measurement Assessment; (IV) practice track (high school/GED) with 150 EEGs, 5 years clinical EEG experience, 120 EEG-related ASET CEUs and a Measurement Assessment; clinical EEG experience is counted at 32 hrs/week (1,664 hrs/year) and sleep experience does not count
Retake policy
One exam attempt per application submission within the 3-month testing window (reapplying repeats all application steps and fees); after 3 unsuccessful attempts within a 2-year timeframe candidates must wait 6 months and submit 20 additional EEG-related ASET CEUs before retesting
